This is the only Mokshapuri which is situated in the South of our country.
Adi Shankara Bhagawadpada,who propogated the Adwaita philosophy lived here in eighth century.
This city has 108 Shiva temples and 18 Vishnu temples.
Sri Ramanujacharya who propogated Vishitadwaitha lived here too.
There are so many temple tanks in and around Kanchipuram.
It is said that if one takes bath in the Sarvatheertham,he gets the benefit of taking a holy bath in all the holy rivers in our country.
Kamakshi Amman temple presides gloriously here in Kanchipuram.
Adi Shankara has established a shree chakram in front of the deity here.
In Kamakshi Amman temple we cannot find a sanctum for Lord Shiva
Likewise we cannot see an Amman sannidhi in any of the Shiva temples in Kanchipuram.
Even in a few temples around Kanchipuram the Lord is known by several names but the mother is Kamakshi only.
